I graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Health. In April 2015, I began as a Safety Specialist on the Health and Safety/Occupational Safety team for UNC Charlotte’s Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS). While on the Health and Safety team, I completed incident investigations, a variety of training courses, and various types of assessments and inspections, as well as overseeing programs like bloodborne pathogens and respiratory protection for several departments. In 2018, I transferred to the Safety and Claims team, a newly formed team within EHS. As part of the Safety and Claims team, I focus on consultative and injury prevention services. I also conduct incident investigations, limited ergonomic assessments and various trainings, as well as assisting with departmental safety assessments to integrate safety with departmental operations.
One of the reasons that I’m in EHS is that I want people to go home at the end of the day the same way that they came – all their fingers, toes and senses. Another reason is that I want people to understand the “why” safety processes and regulations exist.
